{weekend goodness}

I hope your all having a good weekend! I will finally getting back to a normal schedule with my own work as my overtime at Muji has finished, which means I will also be getting back to my regular features on the blog too!

For now I thought I would show the recent features I have had in magazines. It's so exciting to see my work in a real printed magazine! I finally have a copy of the book collaboration with Society6 & iDN, that has one of my papercut lampshades featured in it. (more info on that here) I also received a copy of the newest issue of Computer Arts magazine, which includes a tutorial I created for them, on how to create papercuts for a graphic use. I hope this is the first of lots to come!

{Feature Friday}

This is going to be a substantial post this week as there is so much to say!

I have heard of Uppercase before and all i knew about it was that it was a magazine with amazing imagery. Having found their blog and flickr stream yesterday (and being distracted for hours!) i realised it is so much more. In the "About the magazine" section they have this to say....

This makes me want to buy the magazine and a subscription to be a part of this magazine and what they believe! Having looked through the Uppercase flickr stream and after reading page after page of their blog, i came across a great set of images for the actual magazine imagery and spreads here. This set of images has behind the scenes photos of layouts alongside inspirational imagery and it IS thoroughly inspiring! I could (and probably will) spend hours looking through these photos and the rest of the flickr stream, when i need a quick burst of inspiration to get me motivated to create my own work. They also have a shop here on their website that houses a great selection of paper products, books and you can also buy and subscribe to the magazine.

The magazine comprises of Janine Vangool - publisher, editor, designer and Deidre Martin - editor-at-large, audiovisual department editor. I think they do an amazing job on the magazine (I will be subscribing as a Christmas present for myself and you should too!) and the journal they run, plus they take amazing photographs and have recently published a book titled
"The Suitcase Series Volume 1:Camilla Engman" and the publishing section of the Uppercase website explains it in such a great way -

"The Suitcase Series presents in glorious detail the lives of select artists and designers. The books are image-based, full of artwork, sketchbook pages, beautiful photographs and artifacts from where the artists live and work. Interviews with the artist are included in both their native language and English. The books’ size will be small and intimate, like a diary/sketchbook and each book in the series would have a special treasure added: perhaps a small limited-edition art print, a vellum envelope filled with foreign paper scraps for collage, fabric swatches, etc. The book becomes a precious souvenir of a creative journey shared between the reader and the artist." - borrowed from here. {magazine interview}

this is the interview that i did while doing work experience for the Leeds Guide....its on sale now, so if your in the Leeds area, go buy yourself a copy and have a good read! (this is just a small section of the interview from their website, there is more text and photos in the magazine)

{WIP Wednesday}

well this wednesday there is no WIP as i have started my work experience this week, which has kept me busy through the day and tired at night! I do have some good news though! i am going to be featured in the magazine i am working with!, they are interviewing me and taking photos of my apartment for a feature on people who live in the city! It will be an interview solely to do with me, my apartment and what i feel about the city i live in, Leeds. I cant wait and i will definitely put the images up when they have been printed. The irony of it all is that once they have taken the photos for my feature and interviewed me, i will have to do the layout of the feature in the magazine, so i get to choose what images i show and what i dont!
