Mr Yen Featured in I Love Stationery Book!

It's my day off from Muji today and I'm using it to catch up with all things Mr Yen....starting with showing you the amazing book I have a few papercut pieces featured in!

The book is called "I Love Stationery" and it was created by Charlotte Rivers. I'm so excited and grateful to be included in such an amazing book alongside other great designers/makers. I was asked a while ago to contribute something to the book and I decided to send images of my paper cut notepads and paper cut map covered notebooks.

Charlotte has authored some amazing books, which you can see here, and I was recently featured in another one of them "Handmade Type Workshop" where I created a specific paper cut piece for the book (which you can see below)

Seeing my work published is a very exciting thing, and I would love to create more work for print - which reminds me, I better get started on putting together some plans for a book of all things Mr Yen!

Handmade Type - New Papercut Design

I just thought I would make a little announcement about a new papercut design that I created for the book Handmade Type Workshop, created by Charlotte Rivers and published by Thames & Hudson.

You can see the papercut below, which is in the shop now!

As soon as I get my hands on the book I will be back to do a review on it as I know of a few other talented people who have contributed to it too. I created this papercut design as a tutorial for the book and I'm so excited to have my work published in an actual book - thanks so much Charlotte for asking me to take part!

WIP Wednesday

This weeks WIP Wednesday is experimenting with grey & white envelopes, hand cut lace designs, white ribbon and book pages.

{Inspiration}

I recently bought some wool felt from TreeFall Design on etsy who lives quite close to me! as I just loved the colours of them and have always liked felt. Manda told me that it can be cut just like paper so I will have to have a go at creating a simple design for them....we might even collaborate to create something too. I will keep you updated on the felt & what it turns into!

I have also recently been looking for some pattern & shape inspiration which led me to the following series of books on Amazon - "V&A Pattern" . I bought the second box set of the series & a single book of "The Fifties" and so far have found them all to be great to look at, highly recommended for the patterns and colours, so I should be inspired to create some new designs soon!

This weeks work in progress is a bit of a secret, for now anyway. I am working on a commission to make something that will be pretty spectacular once it's finished and I thought I would show the bare bones of it at the moment!

a short WIP post this week as I have been up all night working, so a morning post for a change! and now I'm heading into University!

Following are some images that I created and photographed for a promotional campaign I am working on for my local Library (a University brief I set myself, not set by the library) The blue frame is hand cut out of paper, as is all the text in the books, oh and blue & yellow are the council's branding/colours.

this week I am working on sorting out all the files I have on my computer as it is running so slow, it needs sorting out as soon as possible before my mac breaks down and as I am getting so many exciting emails this week, I need to be as organised as possible before I get snowed under with work. this weekend goodness is library books. vintage botanical illustrations of mushrooms and wild flowers.

{WIP wednesday}

this week I am working on an Alice in Wonderland book cover design for a competition brief (that I am also using as a brief for University. I am in the process of playing with floral silhouette illustrations that I have in a vintage book and you can also see the start of a mock design for a papercut. I decided to focus on the part of the story with the singing flowers as a reference and thought it provided some great visual imagery!

I have just listed these books/zines in my etsy. The doodle zine is $7 and the Leaf book is $15. If the doodle zine sells, i will print more as it is full of my illustrations, doodles, hand drawn typography, patterns, quick sketches and is a one of a kind so you will be getting a bargain! The leaf book is a one off and there will only be that one printed like that with those leaves in that order.
