Thursday Finds
This Thursday Finds post is a small collection of images I've found interesting this week. I will see you back here tomorrow for a fun Feature Friday!
weekend goodness
Hello! I hope you're all having a great weekend so far. This morning I had a quick visit to my Dads house to have a rummage around for props for some new photographs and I found this piece of wood and lots of others like it in his shed. I love the typography on it and the wood has a great texture to it, I think it will definitely have to be used in the new photos, what do you think?
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I will see you back here on Monday!
Inspiration Tuesday
This Inspiration Tuesday I thought I would introduce you to Brian Ferry and his inspirational photography (if you don't already know him). I find his photographs that have a paired down and simple aesthetic very inspirational, and I think everything from the compositions to the lighting create such a special feeling within his images. You should definitely visit his portfolio or blog to be inspired, you wont be disappointed!

Feature Friday - The Old Red Hen
This weeks Feature Friday is The Old Red Hen on Etsy. I recently came across this shop through 'recommended to me' shops on Etsy and I just love the photography of every product.
Below you can see a small selection, but I recommend looking through their sold items too - just to see the amazing photography!

WIP Wednesday
Hello!
All this week I have been taking new photos of all the Mr Yen shop products and business cards. While updating the Mr Yen website in between uploading and editing photos (more on that later this week!) I have decided to have all my product photos black/white/grey now as they are the only colours of paper I use - so I thought I would go with it and create all my photos in the same way to create a more coherent look to my shop and my products.
New Branding Imagery
To go with my new product photographs I have decided to add a few tweaks to some Mr Yen branding elements (as you can see the blog header above, the Mr Yen Big cartel shop and my Etsy shop header too). In each of my papercut product photos you can now see ribbons, my scalpel and a piece of crystal (smokey quartz).
I would like to explain why I chose these things as they could appear to be random prop choices, but the piece of crystal was chosen as each piece of crystal or semi-precious stone is always a one of a kind. Each crystal has natural unique aspects to it, just like my papercuts and I also feel using a semi-precious piece of crystal/stone is a nice way to show the delicacy, detail and value of my pieces.
The ribbon used in my product shots is a reference to my logo, which I have had for quite some time now - the Mr Yen logo uses a banner/ribbon element, which I feel represents luxury and thoughtfully wrapped presents/gifts, which is something I feel my papercuts would be great for....and the scalpel/blade is the exact knife I use to cut all my papercut artwork!
New Way of Listing...
Hope you found it interesting knowing all the 'behind the scenes' reasons for why I do what I do. I will be back tomorrow with the first Thursday Finds post!

This weekend I have some time off work from Muji so I'm taking it easy and having a relaxing weekend...making strawberry and fresh mint jelly and lots of glasses full of peach and elderflower juice with lemon, lime and fresh mint.
Enjoy your weekend - I will be back with regular posts next week!

A few out-takes and experiments from today's photo shoot - taking new pictures of the Mr Yen printed pattern stationery....with styling help from Ashleigh (the clock photo was just a test)
I felt like the photos needed refreshing a little, plus I wanted to show the stationery in a few different contexts so you can see how you can use them yourself!

{Monday Morning}
Good Morning! It's a grey dull day here in Leeds and I need to take some photographs, but I guess that will have to wait! How is it where you are? It's starting to feel a lot more like winter now here, with this kind of weather, the adverts on T.V and the dark early nights.
This morning I have been sorting out the studio as there is so much mess everywhere I can't even see the desk! Also I think it is time to get some admin work done this afternoon, as the past few weeks I have been so busy with lots of making and organising that it has been put to one side. I will also be having three extra special blog posts this week about new stockists & some examples of what you could do with my new Xmas tape!
While sorting out my folders of old work I came across the black & white photo in the image above, which is one of the very first black & white photos I took with a professional film camera, (all developed & processed by me too!) and I thought it would like nice in this frame in my living room....I wonder what other little treasures I will come across while making my way through the mountains of old work that is stashed around the apartment!
Hope you have a productive day!

I haven't posted anything all week as I have been busy with University work and it feels to good to have had a kind of enforced break from blogging. I'm back now and feeling refreshed and ready to get blogging again!
Last week I also mentioned that I wanted to have a give away when I reach 1000 hearts in my Etsy shop and with my week away from blogging and my limited internet access I have reached 1023! So thanks everybody who has 'hearted' mrYen!
The give away will be announced on Monday and the prize will be a suprise until then too!
Until Monday - I will be researching for a new project, enjoy your weekend!
