Handmade Type - New Papercut Design

I just thought I would make a little announcement about a new papercut design that I created for the book Handmade Type Workshop, created by Charlotte Rivers and published by Thames & Hudson.

You can see the papercut below, which is in the shop now!

As soon as I get my hands on the book I will be back to do a review on it as I know of a few other talented people who have contributed to it too. I created this papercut design as a tutorial for the book and I'm so excited to have my work published in an actual book - thanks so much Charlotte for asking me to take part!

This weeks Feature Friday is Coulson Macleod.

Inspiration Tuesday - Typography & Quotes

Today's Inspiration Tuesday Post focuses on typography & quotes.

The first image is one that I created for a project at University to promote a Library, and the text is cut straight into the book.

The second image is hand lettered chalk by Dana Tanamachi, which I think is amazing! I would love to be able to create typography this way and I love the temporary nature of using chalk.

The final image I chose purely for it's simplicity and style. I think at some point it would be great if I could learn some calligraphic styles of writing, as I think they would make great papercut pieces!

Experimental Papercut Cards

Last week, while creating some new concertina design greeting cards, I also had a little experiment with some typography and some medal/ribbon shapes. I will have a little play around with them a bit more before releasing them, but they should be in the Mr Yen shop soon!

{Monday Morning}

Good Morning!

This morning I have been making plans to use these envelopes (made of maps) that I bought from Sandwich of the month. I am thinking about making some mini notebooks (A6 size) with these stuck in the back and the front of the notebook to have a papercut cover. Also - I recently received some letterpress samples from Blush publishing, which I requested as I am planning to design some letterpress stationery and I wanted to see what kind of things are possible.

{WIP Wednesday}

This weeks WIP has been finishing up some cutting & binding of some notebooks & sketchbooks, which have now been added to the shop. I have already sold a sketchbook!

Julia Trigg is a Brighton based who studied at the Royal College of Art. She has worked as a Graphic Designer and her love of typography & ephemera has led her to experiment with digital collage, as she couldn't bear to cut up all her collected ephemera (how could you when it's all so amazing!) You can see some more beautiful collections of her typographic art here.

{WIP Wednesday}

This week I have been working on getting a set of geometric greeting cards together, (alongside University work) to use my spirograph papercuts in a more useful and practical way. These will be available in the shop before the weekend and will be in packs of three, with three styles available - a pop out version, a folded square version and a tall thin version and available in three styles - the style below, a snowflake design and a lace design.Keep an eye out to get yours !

I have also created a new purely typographic design that you can find in my shop now, with WIP shots below too!
